I am a freelance documentary editor of everything from short to long form content, a visual storyteller, a builder of film community, and a person that enjoys a good laugh.
Also I'm an Organizer of the VC Philly Chapter.
About
ALEX ALBERS is an experienced documentary editor whose work has premiered on PBS, Fox Sports, Netflix, Amazon Prime as well as film festivals across the country and around the world. Their passion is character driven documentary filmmaking rooted in social change. They are community oriented, have worked for numerous film festivals, helped start up the chapter of the Philadelphia chapter of the Video Consortium, and serve on the board of cinéSPEAK, a Philadelphia-based arthouse cinema.
Alex has had the honor of working with numerous independent filmmakers and production companies on a wide range of projects. Most recently they served as lead editor on Open Eye Pictures' COMPLICATED (2025), a feature documentary that premiered at Slamdance in the Unstoppable program. In the past they worked with TrimTab Media on two award winning short documentaries WOMEN'S MARCH (2017) and ELLAVUT CIMIRTUQ (2024), and with Bray's Run Productions a on 7-part travel series PERFECT SWEAT (2024), which explores bathing culture around the world.
Farther back they collaborated on a variety of documentary projects including the 10-part Netflix crime series MAKING A MURDERER: Season 1 (2015), Academy Award Winner, RESTREPO (2010), Emmy-nominated & Seattle International Film Festival Audience Award winner, Q BALL (2019), and the Oscar shortlisted and Emmy-Winning Netflix film FIRE IN PARADISE (2019).
In addition to longer form documentary work Alex specializes in short form video content - specifically branded content, client profile pieces, promotional videos, event highlight reels, and music videos. Some of their clients have included Facebook/Meta, AAA, Benjamin Moore, Habitat for Humanity, and SF AIDS Foundation.
They are an alumni of Sarah Lawrence College, where in 2008 they received their BA in Liberal Arts with an area of focus in film production. They have lived all over - Chicago, Brooklyn, Sydney, San Francisco - currently they live in Philadelphia with their partner and rescue pup. Ask them to tell you the story of how this pup wandered into their lives. It's quite the tail, I mean tale.

America’s War Over Wolves | UN/DIVIDED
Warning: Graphic Images Wolf advocates believe that wolves have a right to live and roam on the land. Ranchers struggle with the danger they present to their livestock and livelihoods. There is often a tense stand-off between the two sides. Karin Vardaman is an advocate for protection of wolves in the wild. In her field, cattle ranchers are considered the “enemy.” To her knowledge, she is the ONLY person working towards the protection of wild wolves by working WITH cattle ranchers. She has pioneered long-term strategies for protecting cattle from wolves and thereby wolves from cattle ranchers — strategies that also show ranchers respect and an understanding of their bottom line. Don Gittleson was skeptical at first. As a lifelong rancher, he was more comfortable taking care of wolves on his own — with his rifle — but that solution is illegal. After the local wolf pack began targeting his herd, he reached out to Vardaman for help. Together, they have been learning what works and what doesn’t to deter this particular local pack while modeling extraordinary synergy between two worlds that are usually at odds with each other.
